Leongatha Memorial Hall was built 1925/26 and officially opened in May 1926, it is situated in a commanding position in the centre of town on the corners of McCartin street and Michael Place, and to this day stands proud as a historically significant landmark. ‘The meeting place’ for the people, was built as a tribute to those who gave service for their country during the 1st World War. Funds were sought through public appeal, with more funds being donated by the RSL and other worthy community groups.

The Memorial Hall is a living landmark that epitomizes Leongatha’s strong community cohesiveness. Over the past ninety years it has continually played host to community events supporting worthy charitable causes, including the likes of boxing events, debutante balls, cattle and flower shows to name a few.

In recent years many upgrades of this facility make it even more appealing to all users, including, new curtains and stage curtains, major upgrade of the main kitchen, relocation of the CAB (citizens advice bureau) now incorporating the Tourist Information Centre, and soon to be started a major overhaul of the front entrance toilet facilities. The hall is owned by the Shire, overseen by the Council staff in conjunction with a proactive group of volunteers as the Memorial Hall Advisory Group.

Leongatha Memorial Hall is an ideal venue to conduct performances, art shows, live acts and wedding celebrations, with dining capacity of 200. Further technical information can be found at www.southgippsland.vic.gov.au, or through the Hall contractor.
