With the experience gained from yet another dry autumn we are learning which plants are able to cope with these conditions and those who have struggled or succumbed. It’s actually surprising how well some plants have done, especially those that are established and there are many garden s that hace continued to look good throughout the summer and autumn. The lesson is look and see what is doing well in your garden and others nearby and plant more of these – less stress, more success.
We had a great bus to the Macedon area in late April – two lovely days of gardens, nurseries, food and relaxation, with reasonable weather and without the predicted snow falls. The autumn colours were wonderful and it was a special experience to see some of those large gardens where trees have the opportunity to grow to their full potential. Thank you Heather, your organization was again superb. We now look forward to our next day trip to the Cranbourne Botanic Gardens and a Peninsular garden.
Our AGM was held in April and we have a new President – Sue Thompson and a new Secretary – Lillian Brittain, as well as some new committee members.
Preparations for the Daffodil & Floral Show and the Australian National Daffodil Championships continue and we are doing our best to put on a great show. We have had a lot of interest from interstate growers and breeders as well as those in Victoria and in recent weeks have responded to enquiries from overseas – NZ, Netherlands, UK, Ireland and USA. As a result of the championships this year’s show will be on Friday 5th to Sunday 7th September, not the normal Thursday to Saturday.
